Enrichment & Specials
Art, Music, PE, STEAM, and Spanish that ignite curiosity and creativity.
At Emmanuel Lutheran School, we believe in developing the whole child. Our enrichment classes complement our core academic curriculum, providing students with opportunities to explore their interests and develop talents in various areas.
Art
Under the guidance of Mrs. Tammy Reilly, our art program nurtures creativity and self-expression through a variety of media and techniques. Students learn about art history, principles of design, and different artistic styles while developing their own creative abilities.
Music
Our music program, led by Ms.. A. Brown, introduces students to music appreciation, theory, and performance. Students learn to read music, play instruments, and sing in various styles. Music classes enhance cognitive development, encourage teamwork, and provide opportunities for students to glorify God through music.
Physical Education
Coach Jen Jenkins leads our PE program, promotes physical fitness, coordination, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Students develop fundamental movement skills, learn about health and nutrition, and enjoy a variety of sports and activities.
STEAM
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education is integrated throughout our curriculum and highlighted in special STEAM classes led by Mr. Mark Edmiston. Students engage in hands-on, project-based learning activities that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. Our STEAM program prepares students for the technological challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
Spanish
Ms. A. Brown introduces students to Spanish language and culture, providing a foundation for future language study. Students learn vocabulary, basic grammar, and cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries through interactive activities, songs, and stories.
Special Events
Our enrichment programs culminate in special events throughout the year, including:
- Art Fair
- Music performances
- STEAM projects showcase
- International Night
- History Fair
- Science Fair
- Field Day
Students typically attend each enrichment class once or twice per week. The exact schedule varies by grade level, with most enrichment classes lasting 30-45 minutes per session.
Yes, all of our enrichment classes are taught by teachers who specialize in their respective fields. These dedicated professionals bring expertise and passion to their subjects, enhancing the learning experience for our students.
Enrichment classes use a variety of assessment methods appropriate to each discipline. While academic standards are maintained, emphasis is placed on participation, effort, improvement, and creative expression rather than traditional testing in most enrichment subjects.
Yes, each enrichment class follows a structured curriculum aligned with age-appropriate standards and our school's Christian mission. Teachers develop lesson plans that build skills sequentially throughout the year and across grade levels.
Our enrichment classes are designed to complement and enhance our core curriculum. For example, Art and Music reinforce historical periods studied in Social Studies, PE supports science lessons about the human body, and STEAM projects integrate math and science concepts.
Yes, students have opportunities to showcase their learning throughout the year. These include the annual Art Fair, music performances, PE demonstrations like Field Day, and STEAM project exhibitions.
Technology is incorporated where appropriate in each enrichment area. In Art, students might learn digital design; in Music, they may use recording software; in PE, they might track fitness goals; and STEAM classes regularly utilize various technologies for projects.
Our enrichment teachers differentiate instruction to meet students where they are and help them grow. Activities are designed with multiple entry points so all students can participate successfully while being appropriately challenged.
Most enrichment classes do not assign regular homework, though occasional at-home practice or project work may be suggested, particularly in preparation for special events or performances.
Christian values are woven throughout all of our enrichment programs. In Art, we celebrate God's gift of creativity; in Music, we often include sacred pieces; in PE, we emphasize good sportsmanship; in STEAM, we explore God's design in the natural world; and in Spanish, we discuss cultural practices related to faith traditions.
Yes! We welcome parent volunteers for special enrichment projects, events, and performances. Parents with expertise in art, music, physical fitness, technology, engineering, or Spanish are especially encouraged to share their knowledge and experiences.
Our enrichment program develops well-rounded students with appreciation and skills in multiple disciplines. These experiences often spark lifelong interests, reveal talents, and develop soft skills like creativity, collaboration, and perseverance that benefit students in all future endeavors.
